Synthetic AI has changed the nature of brand defense from reputational risk to operational risk. This 16-page white paper consolidates a five-part series covering impersonation, fake proof governance, brand hijack control loops, speed-vs-safety routing, and the 24-hour response system. Includes case studies on the Arup US$25M deepfake fraud↗, Meta Australia celebrity scam ads↗ (A$43.4M in losses), and Gisele Bündchen Instagram deepfakes. Grounded with research from NIST↗, McKinsey↗, and the FTC↗.
Synthetic AI has moved brand impersonation from edge-case noise to operational risk. The Arup deepfake fraud↗ saw HK$200M (US$25M) stolen through a single synthetic video call with no technical breach. In Australia, ACCC Scamwatch↗ reported A$43.4M in social media scam losses, with ~A$30M from fake AI-generated celebrity investment ads on Meta platforms. McKinsey↗ and NIST↗ have flagged synthetic content as a systemic risk requiring new governance approaches beyond traditional cybersecurity.
Developed a five-chapter operating model for synthetic AI brand defense: (1) Impersonation readiness with named incident owners and detection protocols; (2) Proof governance with pre-launch evidence standards using the NIST AI Risk Management Framework↗; (3) Brand Hijack Control Loop (Map → Monitor → Classify → Act → Learn); (4) Two Lanes/One Log risk-routing system balancing speed and safety, informed by McKinsey's GenAI speed and safety research↗; (5) 24-Hour Response System running three parallel tracks (Takedowns, Comms, Recovery) with defined KPIs. Includes starter kit templates for immediate operationalization.
